New Rules for PhD defence

A new procedure for the PhD defence at Chalmers will be effective from January 2015.  With the new rules the PhD candidate must sent a final draft of the thesis to the opponent and the graduation committee not later than three months before the date of the dissertation. A feedback on the thesis is expected within one month and the final version of the text will be printed one month before the date of the dissertation.

For more information consult the rules of procedure for doctoral programs at section 7.2.2

Visa for non EU PhD students

The visa for non EU PhD students to stay temporarily in the country after the end of PhD studies was approved by the Swedish Parliament in June 2014.  Contribution of the DS board through this long  journey  can be read here.

Even with this new law, the one year-long visa problem still exists and DS will make sure this issue is addressed and solved in the best possible way.

Nominate Supervisor of the year 2015

It is time to nominate supervisors to the honorable prize: "Supervisor of the year". The prize is a fine academic merit and it will be awarded by the rector at the promotion ceremony in June 2015. If you think that your supervisor deserves the prize, send us his/her name together with a motivation letter, recommended 1-3 pages. Please include all students(current and graduated PhD students less than a year) standing for the nomination. Send the email to: supervisorOfyear@dokt.chs.chalmers.se

DEADLINE FOR NOMINATION: Sunday, 1st February 2015

After the deadline all nominations will be reviewed by the Doctoral Student Guild (DS). A few candidates will be selected and the students will be interviewed. DS will then recommend to the rector who we think should be the supervisor of the year.
